A six-week-old baby tragically died after she fell to her death down an elevator shaft in New York on Thursday.
Police say little Areej Ali's mother was waiting for the elevator on the 23rd floor of a Brooklyn building (pictured above), while she sat in her stroller.
Unfortunately the doors opened with no elevator present. The parent didn't realize the car wasn't at their floor, and instinctively pushed her infant forward; Areej, still in the stroller, fell down the shaft to the building's 17th floor.
The baby was rushed to Coney Island Hospital, but was sadly pronounced dead.
Records show the building has multiple complaints on file with the Buildings Department, and the elevators weren't functioning properly on two separate occasions last month
