Anambra to ban open defecation

The Anambra State Government on Thursday said it would ban open defecation in the state.

It said it had begun a proactive action in that respect by encouraging the people to build toilets in motor parks, markets, hospitals and other public places.

The state Commissioner for Power and Domestic Water Development, Mr. Obi Nwankwo, stated this in Awka, the state capital as part of the activities marking the 2016 Global Hand Washing Day slated for October 15.

He said, “We want to totally eradicate germs in our society. We have realised that some people still defecate in the open; so, we want to eradicate it.

“We want to encourage people to build toilets and wash their hands regularly after using the toilet, after child management and before eating,” he stated.
