In Nigeria, it is expected that when a man or lady gets of age, he or she should move away from under the shadows of the parents and get married.
Even the Holy Books strongly advise this, so it’s no surprise that marriage is seen as such a big deal in this part of the world.
However, some celebs, especially males, are usually terrified of the word ‘marriage.’ Many of them fear that they would lose their female fans if they take the plunge. In this piece, we take a look at some of the celebs that are under serious pressure by their fans to get married. Enjoy…
Banky, 35, has got swag, talent, class…everything that makes an eligible bachelor. Even brands are always flocking around him. But it seems the brother is finding it difficult to find a soul mate. Or maybe he has, but has cold feet about walking down the aisle. He is constantly bugged about his marital status, and he was recently forced to pen an open letter on his Instagram page where he revealed that he is single and searching, but hasn’t been lucky yet. The letter reads in part, ‘These days, I can’t even post ‘Good Morning’ on social media, without someone saying yes, but it will be a better morning when you marry…by God’s grace, we will get there, and we will settle down with the right person, and live happily ever after.’
Don Jazzy still waiting for his ‘Onome’ to appear Don Jazzy’s name has become almost synonymous with bachelorhood in the music industry. The question on everybody’s lips is when will the 33 years old talented beat-maker get married? The Mavin boss known for his legendary crush on Rihanna is also always talking about a certain Onome whom he says he will like to get married to. However, we don’t know if Onome truly exists, or she is just a figment of the don’s imagination. He is usually pressured by his fans and label-mates to get married already. One of his signees, Korede Bello, recently released a song, ‘Mungo Park’ in which he advised Don Jazzy to get married. Interestingly, no woman has been linked to Jazzy in the course of his career.
Adekunle Gold desperately searching for ‘Shade’ We don’t know which is more: the pressure on Adekunle Gold by fans, or the one he mounts on himself. One thing we do know is that Adekunle ‘desperately’ wants to get married. He is usually singing about marriage in most of his songs. In his breakthrough song, ‘Sade,’ he revealed that his parents have been bugging him about a grand-child for long. In ‘Pick Up’ he begged God to provide him a boo because he wants to get married. In the song, ‘Ready’ he also alluded to the fact that he is eager to find a woman. We can only hope that God will pick his call soon as regards marriage.
Genevieve fears divorce than marriage Genny, as she is fondly called, is widely referred to as the Queen of Nollywood. But she is also under enormous pressure to have a king by her side. Many of her fans want to see her get married, and they do not hesitate to rub it in her face. Her social media pages are full of messages from fans who ask when she will be getting married. Some even go to the extent of offering to match-make her with eligible bachelors, but 37 years old Genny is determined to take her time in spite of the pressure. She enthused in a recent interview, ‘If I get married, I really want to stay married, and staying married is not an easy thing. It means you are completely in tune with your partner. It means you have found your soul mate because you will have to be able to stand a lot of disappointments that would definitely come, but you (also) have to learn to forgive.’
D’banj’s secret marriage yet to be confirmed The ‘Koko master’ is unarguably one of the most eligible bachelors in the country. It is therefore not surprising that many women (kokolettes and mamalettes, like he calls them) will give an arm and a leg to get married to him. Perhaps, that’s why he has such a hard time choosing one of them. The 35-year-old popstar recently admitted that his mom has been on his neck to get married, and his fans are also not giving him a breather as regards his single status. However, it was widely reported some weeks ago that the ‘Suddenly’ singer had secretly gotten married to one Didi Kilgrow, who is partly Nigerian and South African, on his father’s birthday. But his reps denied the reports, claiming that what happened between the couple was only a formal introduction ceremony between the two lovebirds’ families. For want of space, we wouldn’t be able to list the many women D’banj has been linked with.
Osita Iheme (Pawpaw) not so keen on Aki Osita Iheme aka Pawpaw may be small in stature, but his achievements in the movie industry are gigantic. The thespian has appeared in over 300 movies, and he is indisputably a fan-favourite. He is often paired with his friend, Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) in movies where they regularly play the roles of troublesome children because of their height. His fans have constantly been bugging him to get married particularly because Aki got married about four years ago, and they expect Pawpaw to also follow suit. There have been many reports that Iheme is planning to get married soon, but we are yet to hear wedding bells. However, his fans don’t give him a breathing space as they want to see him get married as fast as possible.
Empress Njamah: ‘Marriage still not on her mind’ Empress Njamah is another actress who is under serious pressure from her fans to get married. However, it seems the outspoken role-interpreter is not interested. She once stated in an interview, ‘Marriage is not the thing on my mind right now. I cannot marry my colleague! It would be boring living in the same house with someone you know his job as well as his income. Should you be more popular or get richer than the man, then you are in trouble as this could be dangerous…’
Olisa Adibua now ‘veteran bachelor’ Popular On-Air-Personality (OAP), Olisa Adibua, is referred to as a ‘veteran bachelor’ by colleagues in the industry. At almost 50 years old, Adibua has never been married, and he is often bombarded with calls by fans to get married. But he says he is married to his work.
